Ol Pejeta Conservancy

Ol Pejeta Conservancy, located in the Laikipia region of central Kenya, is a premier wildlife conservancy and a beacon of successful conservation efforts. Spanning approximately 360 square kilometers, Ol Pejeta is renowned for its diverse wildlife, including the “Big Five” (elephants, lions, leopards, rhinos, and buffaloes), and its pioneering role in wildlife conservation and community development.

Wildlife and Conservation Efforts

Ol Pejeta Conservancy is home to a remarkable variety of wildlife. It boasts one of the largest black rhino sanctuaries in East Africa, making it a critical stronghold for this endangered species. Additionally, the conservancy is the only place in Kenya where visitors can see chimpanzees, housed in the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, which provides a safe haven for chimpanzees rescued from the illegal pet trade and other traumatic situations.

The conservancy is also home to the last two remaining northern white rhinos in the world, a poignant symbol of the critical need for conservation. Efforts to save these majestic animals include advanced reproductive techniques in collaboration with international scientists.
